Content Moderation Policy
We aim to foster a robust, open, and civil conversation on the future of our community.
While no topics are off limits, a team of moderators consisting of local volunteers from the BG 2050 Project, with assistance from Polis, will review all statements before they are made live in the conversation.
We want to see as many of your ideas as possible, so moderators will only remove comments from Polis for one of the following eight reasons:
- Redundancy. If a new statement repeats an idea that has already been posted, it will not be added to the conversation. This saves the community from seeing the same idea multiple times.
- Unclear. If the idea expressed in the statement is not clear to a reader, it will not be added to the conversation.
- Profanity. If the statement includes profane or abusive language, it will not be added to the conversation.
- Attacks on Individuals and Groups. No attacks against any individual, business, or group of people will be allowed in the conversation. Let’s stay focused on the community we want to build in the future. (Added 2/24/25) This includes targeted comments that clearly point to an individual person without expressly naming them.
- Personally Identifiable Information. Any statements including personally identifiable information–including, but not limited to an individual’s name, address, phone number, or email address–will not be included in the conversation.
- Multiple Ideas. If a statement submitted expresses multiple ideas, it makes it difficult for respondents to properly respond “Agree,” “Disagree,” or “Pass,” as they may agree or disagree in part. As a result, these statements will not be added to the conversation, but we will make every effort to include the ideas in the conversation.
- Off Topic. If a statement is in no way related to the future of our community, it will not be added to the conversation.
- Suspicious Activity. If we detect a flood of statement submissions clearly coming from outside the region at a volume beyond what would normally be expected, we will flag those statements and not include them in the conversation. (Accidentally omitted on original posting; added 2/24/25)
All ideas submitted to the conversation, including those held back by moderators, will be made available for download here on a weekly basis. All personal identifiable information, profanity, and the names of individuals, businesses or groups subject to personal attacks will be redacted, however, before the comments are made available to the public.
To facilitate moderation, all ideas submitted to What Could BG Be? will be scored by Jigsaw’s Perspective API to help identify potential abuse, but all decisions will be made by volunteers and will not be automated.
Restating & Reposting
Your ideas for the future of our community are important. If an idea is not added to the conversation for any reason, the moderation team will make an effort to restate the idea in a way that aligns with the guidelines for the conversation listed above to ensure the community has an opportunity to weigh in.
